VR STORYTELLING | CULTURAL HERITAGE DIGITIZATION | AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF BEIRUT, 2024

A virtual reality experience recreating an 18th-century Omani house from the abandoned village of Al Hamra, Oman.

CONTEXT

Built for the Cultural Heritage Digitization project and conference organized at the American University of Beirut, in cooperation with Technische Hochschule Brandenburg and Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. Users explore the traditional architecture and hospitable customs of a place that is increasingly difficult to access.

APPROACH

By combining photographic scanning with physical navigation, visitors interact with ghostly characters in 2D comic book style who guide them through culturally authentic rituals. The project creates a scientifically valid method of preservation while offering engaging narratives.
